2: Las personas y las perspectivas

    Welcome to Chapter 2, “ Las personas y las perspectivas. ” In chapter 1, you began learning about your classmates, your school, and the community around your school, and you discussed how you and your classmates compare to the typical student. In chapter 2, you will continue sharing more about yourself and learning more about your classmates. You will begin by learning more vocabulary for describing yourself and the people who are important to you. You will discuss identity and the complexities it entails in different contexts. You will also discuss the impact of culture on identity and how identity connects us to communities apart from the ones we are born into. You will also explore how community values reflect our own social identities. Along the way, you will build grammar and vocabulary to help you express yourself and understand others.

    • 2.1: Module A - Identities in different contexts
      ¡Empezamos el capítulo 2! Chapter 2’s theme is “ Las personas y las perspectivas ,” giving us an opportunity to learn more about ourselves, our classmates, and important people in our lives. In this module, you will learn more about your classmates and have conversations about how our identities are impacted by the context we are in. You will come across lots of new words and grammar that will help you be able to express yourself more fully.
    • 2.2: Module B - Culture and Connections
      In module B, you will continue to share more about yourself and learn more about your classmates. Our conversations will shift to how we maintain connections with important people in our lives, whether we see them every day or infrequently. We will also explore cultural identity both in the US and in Spanish-speaking countries. We will explore different practices that help people stay connected with their cultural identity and share more about our own cultures.
    • 2.3: Module C - The communities we create
      In this module you will further develop your communication skills and practice describing the important people and communities in your life with more detail. We will explore a variety of personal connections, including family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors. You will learn more about the people who are important to your classmates and share more information about the community you’ve created in your life.
    • 2.4: Module D - Social Identities and Community Values
      In this module, you will further explore the impact that those communities have on your identity. You will explore themes of social identity and discuss with classmates which elements of your identities are most present in different social situations. You will also analyze your own communities’ values and talk about how those values are reflected. You will dedicate additional attention to developing your writing abilities to share information about these themes.
    • 2.5: Reflection and Review
      In closing the topic of “Las personas y las perspectivas,” you will consider your role within your community. How do you influence your community? How does your community influence you? You will demonstrate your ability to express your thoughts in writing, work with peers and your instructor to edit your writing, and continue building writing skills. You will also reflect on your language-learning experience so far and determine how you want to approach the next chapter.
