    Reading 1: دُبيّ مدينةٌ عالَميَّة

    This text introduces Dubai as a modern and bustling city located in the United Arab Emirates. It highlights Dubai’s reputation as a center for trade and tourism, showcasing its famous landmarks like Burj Khalifa برج خليفة and Dubai Mall. The text also describes the city’s advanced transportation systems, wide streets, and organized infrastructure, as well as its global port and popular tourist areas like Marina Dubai and Jumeirah Beach شاطئ جميرة. Dubai is presented as a city that combines modernity with global appeal, making it a top destination for visitors from around the world.

    دُبيّ مدينَةٌ عالَمَيَّةٌ

    دُبَي هِيَ مَدِينَةٌ حَدِيثَةٌ وَمُزْدَحِمَةٌ تَقَعُ فِي دَوْلَةِ الإِمَارَاتِ العَرَبِيَّةِ المُتَّحِدَةِ. تَشْتَهِرُ دُبَي بِأَنَّهَا مَرْكَزٌ لِلتِّجَارَةِ وَالسِّيَاحَةِ. يُسَافِرُ الكَثِيرُ مِنَ النَّاسِ إِلَى دُبَي لِقَضَاءِ أَوْقَاتٍ مُمتِعَةٍ فِي التَّسَوُّقِ وَزِيَارَةِ الأَسْوَاقِ العَالَمِيَّةِ.

    يُمْكِنُكَ زِيَارَةُ بُرْجِ خَلِيفَة، وَهُوَ أَطْوَلُ بُرْجٍ فِي العَالَمِ. يُمكِنُكَ أنْ تُشَاهِدَ مَدِينَةَ دُبَي مِنَ الأَعْلَى. بِجَانِبِ بُرْجِ خَلِيفَة، يُوجَدُ دُبَي مَول، وَفِيهِ مِئَاتُ المَحَلاَّتِ التِّجَارِيَّةِ وَالمَطَاعِمِ.

    فِي دُبَي، تَرْكَبُ مِتْرُو الأَنْفَاقِ، الَّذِي يَصِلُ إِلَى مَنَاطِقِ المَدِينَةِ بِسُرْعَةٍ. بِالإِضَافَةِ إِلَى ذَلِكَ، تُوجَدُ سَيَّارَاتُ أُجْرَةٍ كثيرَة فِي جَمِيعِ المَدِينَةِ.

    تَتَمَيَّزُ شَوَارِعُ دُبَي بِأَنَّهَا وَاسِعَةٌ. تُوجَدُ فِيهَا الكَثِيرُ مِنْ إِشَارَاتِ المُرُورِ، وَمَمَرَّاتِ المُشَاةِ، بِالإِضَافَةِ إِلَى مَوَاقِفِ السَّيَّارَاتِ فِي جَمِيعِ المَدِينَةِ.

    دُبَي أَيْضًا مِيناءٌ عَالَمِيٌّ، حَيْثُ تَصِلُ إِلَيْهَا السُّفُنُ التِّجَارِيَّةُ مِنْ مُخْتَلِفِ دُوَلِ العَالَمِ.

    فِي المَدِينَةِ، تُوجَدُ مِنْطَقَةُ مَارِينَا دُبَي، الَّتِي تُعْرَفُ بِاسْمِ "دُبَي الجَدِيدَةِ"، وَفِيهَا أَبْنِيَةٌ عَالِيَةٌ. يُحِبُّ النَّاسُ المَشْيَ عَلَى شَاطِئِ جُمَيْرَا بِيتش، الَّذِي يَنْقَسِمُ إِلَى أَرْبَعَةِ أَقْسَامٍ. يَضُمُّ القِسمُ الكبيرُ فَنَادِقَ مَشْهُورَةَ مِثْلَ هِيلْتُون وَشِيرَاتُون، وَفِي قِسْمٍ آخَرَ هُناكَ مَرَاكِزُ تِجَارِيَّةٌ وَمَوَاقِفُ سَيَّارَاتٍ.

    يُوجَدُ فِي دُبَي تِرَامُ دُبَي، الَّذِي يَصِلُ بَيْنَ بُرْجِ العَرَبِ وَمَارِينَا دُبَي. دُبَي لَيْسَتْ فَقَطْ مَدِينَةً حَدِيثَةً، لَكِنَّهَا أَيْضًا مَدِينَةٌ عَالَمِيَّةٌ.

    Grammar Notes from the text

    الضمائر الموصولة (Relative Pronouns):

    • The text includes several examples of الذي (masculine singular), and التي (feminine singular):
      • الذي يصل إلى مناطق المدينة (which reaches the areas of the city).
      • التي تُعرف باسم "دبي الجديدة" (which is known as "New Dubai").

    الجملة الاسمية (Nominal Sentence):

    • A nominal sentence begins with a noun or pronoun, followed by a predicate. The مبتدأ (subject) and خبر (predicate) must agree in gender and number. Several sentences in the text use nominal constructions:
      • دبي هي مدينة حديثة ومزدحمة.
      • شوارع دبي واسعة.

    الإضافة (Idafa Structure):

    • Examples of الإضافة (noun-noun constructions) are abundant:
      • مناطق المدينة (areas of the city).
      • برج العرب (Burj Al Arab).
      • إشارات المرور (traffic signals).

    باستخدام أفعل التفضيل (Comparatives with "أفعل"):

    • The text implicitly sets up comparisons (e.g., Burj Khalifa is the tallest, Dubai streets are wide).

    • Re-read the text about Dubai carefully. Look for sentences that include الضمائر الوصولة relative pronouns like: التي ، الذي. Copy the sentences from the text that include these pronouns into your notebook. Then translate each sentence into English to show your understanding.
    • Re-read the Dubai text. Find and write in your notebook the phrases that contain a preposition (حرف جر) followed by a noun in the genitive case (اسم مجرور). Translate each phrase into English.
    • Find and write 4 nominal (non-verbal) sentences from the text and write them in your notebook. Underline the subject (المبتدأ) and circle the predicate (الخبر). Translate each full sentence into English.
    • Why do you think Dubai is considered both a modern and a global city? Provide examples from the text.
    • How do the transportation options in Dubai, like the metro and tram, improve the daily lives of people living or visiting there?
