    Purpose: You will practice your powers of deduction and your writing skills in Spanish by reading several prompts about problems various people have run into. You will need to decipher what the problem is from the prompt and make recommendations by answering the questions 1. ¿Qué tiene la persona? and 2. ¿Qué tiene que hacer?. Note that all the answers to the question ¿Qué tiene la persona? will involve a special meaning with tener, such as “hunger, thirst, fear, etc.”

    Task: This activity has two parts:

    1. An initial response to the five prompts
    2. A follow up interaction with two classmates with two additional recommendations each

    Part 1. Read and respond to the following prompts in Spanish. Post your responses to the discussion board in a single post. Be sure to include the numbers 1-5 along with your answers to the questions 1. ¿Qué tiene la persona? and 2. ¿Qué tiene que hacer?.

    1. Luisa tiene la garganta seca (dry throat).
    2. Esteban y Carolina miran una película de horror.
    3. Horacio y yo entramos en la clase equivocada (the wrong classroom).
    4. Tu clase es a las 10, y son las 9:59 ahora.
    5. Los científicos viajan al Polo Norte (the North Pole).

    Part 2. You will read the responses of two classmates and choose to follow up on two of their statements. You will read the recommendation of your classmate that answers the question ¿Qué tiene que hacer?, and using the tener + que + infinitivo structure, you will add an additional recommendation that makes sense. Be sure to include the prompt number along with your comment so that it is clear. Your recommendation must be different from that of your classmates!

    Criteria: The components of this activity add up to 100%.

    Part 1. 80% of the points for this activity will be earned by answering the questions 1. ¿Qué tiene la persona? and 2. ¿Qué tiene que hacer? on your original post for each of the five prompts. Each response is worth 8%.

    Part 2. 20% of the points for this activity will be earned for interacting with two peers on their initial posts: you are to choose two of the recommendations from your peers and add an additional recommendation using the tener + que + infinitivo structure. Be sure to include the prompt number along with your comment so that it is clear. Each additional recommendation (4 total) is worth 5%.

    In the following example, Becky responds to the initial post (only two of the prompts have been shown here as an example). Her peers, Erica and Tim, write an additional recommendation using the tener + que + infinitivo structure. Becky still needs to find two peers and write a total of four additional recommendations in order to earn full points.

    Ejemplo:

    Becky: #2. Esteban y Carolina miran una película de horror. Ellos tienen miedo. Tienen que apagar el televisor.

    #3. Horacio y yo entramos en la clase equivocada. Tenemos verguënza. Tenemos que pedir perdón.

      Erica: #2 Esteban y Carolina tienen que escoger una película diferente.

    #3 Nosotros tenemos que salir de la clase equivocada.

      Tim: #2 Esteban y Carolina tienen que cerrar la puerta y las ventanas con llave.

    #3 Horacio y yo tenemos que escondernos las caras y salir corriendo.
