From a simple text to a post on social media to a work email to a written composition, writing well matters immensely. Applying solid knowledge of grammar basic concepts, mechanics, punctuation, and voice can affect our writing style. Even if our world nowadays is replete with apps like Grammarly, foundational skills play a pivotal role.
Writing well can start with the parts of speech: pronoun, noun, adjective, verb, adverb, conjunction, preposition, interjection, and determiners, yet there are so many other elements involved to help us develop our unique voice in writing. One of these elements involves our masterful control and command of sentence variety at the semantic and pragmatic levels.
In the words of William Zinsser, the author of a well-known text, On Writing Well, "the plain old tools of the English language" that existed for E.B. White and other masters are still the same old tools we can use nowadays in our crafts, even if it is merely a simple email or a book-length dissertation ("Introduction").
