    Tommaso: “Com’è la tua vita in famiglia?”

    Giuditta: “Io vado a scuola e mia madre si occupa delle faccende. Io pulisco la mia stanza, faccio il mio letto e passo l’aspirapolvere. Mia madre fa la spesa, prepara da mangiare e fa la lavatrice. Io lavo i piatti, spolvero e lavo il pavimento. E a casa tua?”

    Tommaso: “ Io lavoro tutto il giorno e ho una signora che viene a fare le pulizie. Amo l’ordine.”

    Michelangelo: “ Oggi a casa abbiamo bisogno di pulire la cucina. In cucina c’è un po’ di disordine.”

    Tommaso: “Hai ragione. Andiamo a casa, ci vediamo più tardi!”

    Artemisia: “Va bene, magari stasera per un gelato?”

    Michelangelo: “Buona idea! Ci sentiamo dopo!”

    Artemisia: “ A dopo, ti mando un messaggio su whattapp”. 

    Michelangelo: “Ciao!”

    Tommaso: "How is your family life?"

    Giuditta: "I go to school and my mother does the chores. I clean my room, make my bed and vacuum. My mother does the shopping, prepares the food and does the washing machine. I wash the dishes, I dust and I wash the floor. And in your house?"

    Tommaso: "I work all day and I have a cleaning lady. I love the order."

    Michelangelo: "Today at home we need to clean the kitchen. In the kitchen there is a little mess."

    Tommaso: "You’re right. Let’s go home, see you later!"

    Artemisia: "Okay, maybe tonight for an ice cream?"

    Michelangelo: "Good idea! See you later!"

    Artemisia: "See you later, I’ll send you a message on whattapp". 

    Michelangelo: "Bye!"

    Now we are going to talk about household chores. Here's a good list to start with:

    scopare to sweep
    bollire to boil
    cucinare to cook, bake
    lavare il pavimento to mop the floor
    fare la lavatrice, fare il bucato to do laundry
    fare i piatti to do the dishes
    fare il letto to make the bed
    fare le faccende domestiche to do housework
    fare la spesa to do the shopping
    fare i compiti to do homework
    fare riparare la macchina to get the car repaired
    fare giardinaggio to garden
    pulire to clean
    passare l'aspirapovere to vacuum
    spolverare to straighten up, put in order, tidy up
    riscaldare to reheat, to warm up
    stirare to iron (clothes)
    occuparsi to take care of
    portare fuori la spazzatura to take out the garbage
    portare fuoti l'immondizia to take out the trash
    tagliare l'erba to mow the lawn

    Note 

    As you can see, many of these chores do not match up evenly to their English equivalents. Here are some examples:

    1.  vs. riordinare vs. lavare

    Lavare means to wash (like hands, clothes and dishes) pulire means to clean (like floors, ovens, and counters), and riordinare means to clean up, tidy up or arrange (like the bedroom, living room, or closet). Certain types of cleaning and washing do not use these verbs at all. Instead we use expressions with fare: fare la lavatrice, fare i piatti, fare il letto, etc.

    1. cuocere vs. cucinare

    Cucinare o fare da magiare mean to do the cooking, to prepare meals. Cucere or fare la cottura refers to the actual cooking (or heating up) of food: fare bollire (to boil), grigliare (to grill), friggere (to fry), cucinare al vapore (to steam), mettere nel forno (to put in the oven), etc.
