Communication (what students will be able to do):

By the end of this chapter, students will be able to:

  1. Discuss their family's origins.
  2. Talk about their family's immigration to the United States.
  3. Name key dates and events from their family's past.
  4. Express pros and cons of different countries.
  5. Plan an imaginary trip to the countries of origin of their family.

Culture (what students will know about the French-speaking world):

By the end of this chapter, students will know something about:

  1. Immigration in France.
  2. Former French colonies.
  3. Islam in France today.

Grammar/ Tools (what students need to know):

In order to perform these communicative tasks, students will have to understand and be able to use correctly the following grammatical structures:

  1. The verb venir.
  2. Use of prepositions with place names.
  3. The passé composé with être.
  4. Dates.
  5. Comparisons.
