Activities
Click on the landmarks in the map to explore new vocabulary about buildings and places in Arabic. Read each sentence, listen to the pronunciation, and complete any questions or matching tasks that appear. Make sure to click on the bubble to start.
Check Your Understanding
- Write a short paragraph (5–6 sentences) comparing عمّان to your city or a city you know. Use vocabulary and sentence structures from the text, including:
- يوجد / توجد
- ظرف المكان (prepositions of place)
- أماكن مثل: محطة، مركز تجاري، مزرعة، شارع، صالة سينما
- Fronted predicate structures if possible.
- Write a short paragraph (6–8 sentences) describing your ideal city. Be creative! Use your imagination to talk about the places, services, and features you want your city to have. Your paragraph must include:
- At least 10 vocabulary words from the “Getting Around Town” unit (e.g., محطة قطارات، مركز تجاري، مزرعة، صالة سينما...)
- At least 5 prepositions of place (e.g., أمام، خلف، بجانب، بين، في وسط، على يمين...)
- Use the structure of fronted predicates and يوجد / توجد when possible to make your description natural and grammatically accurate.
Pair Discussion
In pairs, each student describes their city (using the vocabulary) to their partner. Then, they compare their cities, discussing similarities and differences. For example, one might say, "In my city, there is a large park near the train station," and the other student can respond with how their city is different or similar. Don't forget to use the new vocabulary.
Group Activities
- Each student contributes by labeling places such as a train station, post office, park, or cinema on the map using the vocabulary from the lesson. Afterward, they present their city to the class, explaining where everything is located.
- Each group must decide where to place landmarks (e.g., should the park be next to the cinema or the shopping center?). They will debate the best places for each facility and present their city plan to the class.
- Using the vocabulary, each group creates a poster with descriptions of their city’s landmarks, transportation, and important locations. They should write short paragraphs using the vocabulary and draw or use pictures to represent the places.
