Introduction
In this section, we will introduce new vocabulary related to the city and its essential locations. These words will help you describe various places and services you might encounter while navigating a city. Whether you are looking for transportation, shopping, or entertainment, these terms will be useful for everyday conversations and getting around in urban areas.
New Vocabulary
In this table, you will find vocabulary related to the chapter's theme. In each line, you can find the word in the singular and plural forms, if possible, meaning in English, the word in a sentence, and the audio for the new words in singular, plural, and the sentence. In addition, you hear the word's pronunciation in singular and plural forms from the audio in the dialog cards activity. Listen and repeat the Arabic pronunciation of the new Vocabulary. You should know that the new vocabulary will be integrated into the interactive contexts by scaffolding upon the previously learned vocabulary in earlier Arabic OERs.

Activities
Check Your Understanding
As we continue our journey in learning Arabic, it’s important to remember that the best way to truly master a language is by actively using it. You will be introduced to different activities in your notebook or with your learning partners in this part.
- Practice composing and pronouncing the vocabulary.
- Create sentences according to the models. Write 7-9 sentences to describe your city or area using the new vocabulary.
- Draw an imaginary map of a city, then write a paragraph using the new vocabulary to describe your map. Example paragraph:
- في مدينتي، يوجد مركز تجاري كبير في وسط المدينة. بجانب المركز التّجاري توجد صالة سينما. أمام المكتبة يقع متجر الهدايا. خلف محطة الباصات توجد مزرعة صغيرة...
- Work with a partner. Choose a place from the vocabulary list, and ask yes/ no questions in Arabic to guess the place. After a few questions, your partner makes a guess. Then switch roles.
- Write 6–8 sentences describing your real or imaginary neighborhood using at least eight words from the vocabulary list (e.g., محطة قطارات، مزرعة، مركز تجاري، متجر ملابس). Be sure to include prepositions of place such as أمام، خلف، بجانب، في وسط.
- Example:
- في مدينتي، يوجد مركز شرطة بجانب المكتبة
- تقع محطة الباصات خلف المسجد
- توجد بقّالة صغيرة أمام بيتنا
- Example:
- Choose one location from the vocabulary list (e.g., مركز تجاري، متجر إلكترونيات، محطة قطارات). Then write a short paragraph (5–6 sentences) giving directions to this place from a nearby landmark (like your house, school, or park).
- Example:
- أنا الآن في المدرسة
- اذهب إلى اليمين، ثم امشِ إلى الأمام
- ستجد مركز تجاري كبير بجانب محطة الباصات
- Example:
- Choose two different places from the vocabulary list (for example: مركز شرطة and متجر ملابس). Use a Venn diagram to compare and contrast them. Draw two overlapping circles. In the left circle, write what is unique to Place A. In the right circle, write what is unique to Place B. In the overlapping section, write what the two places have in common. Focus on:
- The purpose of each place
- Its typical location in the city
- Who works there
- Who visits the place
Then, write a short paragraph (5–6 sentences) summarizing the comparison based on your diagram.
