How to Develop a Good Research Topic

Because LIB101 is designed for you to learn about and practice the research process, you will not be developing your own research topic. Instead, you'll be choosing from a list of premade topics provided by your instructor. These premade topics are designed for beginner researchers and are meant to set you up for success in your research.

Even though you won't be developing a research topic for this class, it's a good idea to understand how to develop a good research topic so you are prepared for your future research assignments.

So how do you choose a topic? And, once you've chosen, how do you adjust the topic into a good one? Watch this required video for some ideas on developing a good research topic:

What if you have an interest that you want to research for an assignment? How do you go from something you're interested in to a good research topic? Watch the video below to find out:

Turning an Interest into a Researchable Question (created and shared by PCC Library(opens in new window))
