What is Information literacy? A word cloud of words related to college

In short, Information Literacy is knowing how to find, evaluate, and use the information you need. Information literacy is learning how to swim rather than drown in the information sea. Learning to cope with information overload. Spending less time researching and get better results. Interpreting information for bias and credibility. You're setting yourself up to be able to solve any problem you're presented!

The skills you learn will transfer to any school or work environment you encounter in the future. The exercises and assignments will provide you with many opportunities for hands-on practice with a variety of information resources and search engines.

Some questions To consider over the term:

    • What do we really need libraries for now that there's Google?
    • What is academic information and how do I use a library to find it?
    • How do I find information that actually answers my research question?
    • When might library resources be more useful than Internet searching?
    • What is a search strategy and why is it important in research?
    • How do I find articles and eBooks using databases?
    • Can I manipulate Google to get fewer, better results?
    • Is the information I've found trustworthy and can it be used in academic papers?
    • How does college research work and how can I get help during the process?
