Every term, the librarians ask their students to share with future LIB101 students what they wish they had heard on the first day. Here a few of the best pieces of advice:

    • "Regardless of the time, when the homework is due, or how shy you are: use the 24/7 chatPhoto of hands holding out a small white box wrapped with red ribbon provided. You don’t necessarily need to be stumped to ask a question, you can simply do it if it will save you a good portion of time."
    • "I would tell Fall term students to not procrastinate... to ask questions, and to take a deep breath when or if they are not finding a good article to cite. Reading the notes you provided helped a lot."
    • "Spending time on the worksheet where we developed our topic and find synonyms for our keywords is really worthwhile--having to get those keywords and synonyms listed out like that early in the process saved me what would have been some real time and frustration later in the class."
    • "Students should create a schedule for themselves of what they plan to accomplish each day. This schedule should be tweaked almost constantly until they have one that leaves them feeling accomplished each day without being overloaded with work. This helped me prevent procrastination while also keeping the class fairly fun."
    • "Do the assignment early in the week and take time to digest it! Just because you can finish the assignment fast doesn't mean you should! All of the information in this class is very useful and sometimes enlightening and it's worth it to slow down and take it all in."
    • "Take advantage of this class. It is as easy or as hard as you make it. I wish I would have taken a look ahead in my writing class and matched up my research topics. I feel like you get out of this class as much if not more than you put in. Also don't be afraid to reach out to your teacher or the other Librarians they are incredibly helpful and understanding."

Pretty good advice, if you ask me!
