Is this your first online class?
Learning online requires you to be more self-directed, autonomous, and organized than classroom learning. You're not only learning the course material, you're learning how to be an online student. It's a little different: it is easier to get behind, forget to check in, skip readings, or miss assignments simply because we don't meet weekly to keep you accountable. You also have to learn a totally new system: Moodle. Lucky for you, we have a Moodle tutorial(opens in new window) and a Moodle FAQ(opens in new window) designed to help you do just that.
Deadlines
Do yourself a favor and set yourself a schedule early on. Note when assignments are due (find due dates in the syllabus or on Moodle), and plan time to complete them (anticipate 3-4 hours per week for this course).
Summary
- Read all course materials and watch all videos. Assignments will be much easier and will get a better grade if you do!
- Ask for help before you start to panic.
- If you start to panic, ask for help.
- If you get behind, don't panic. Ask for help. I promise I won't judge you, and I can't help you if you don't talk to me.
- You can email me, or, if you need help IMMEDIATELY, use the 24/7 live chat feature from chapter 1.9. (It's also on our library help page(opens in new window)). You can chat with a librarian at any hour of the day or night and they will help you solve your issue.
