- Introduce students to fundamental concepts and theories within African American Studies, Africana Studies, Black Studies, African Diaspora Studies, and African Studies.
Upon completion of this module, students will be able to:
- Identify and demonstrate an understanding of key concepts in Africana Studies, and interrelated disciplines.
- Recall, and apply theoretical language to explain key texts, leaders, and movements in the discipline, from multiple schools of thought.
This introductory week will be dedicated to defining Africana Studies (African American Studies) and discussing its importance to academe, society, and the general population--specifically people of African descent. Students will be introduced to the discipline by this week's readings "The Trouble with African American Studies,” “What is Africana Studies?” "What is African American Studies" and viewing the video “Agents of Change.”
