When you are spelling Spanish words, I believe it is best to start from the beginning pronouncing the names of the letters in Spanish. My main reason for this is that vowels in Spanish are pronounced exactly as their names indicate. If you say the names of the letters in English, you are not helping yourself with the pronunciation and you are going through an extra step. If you learn the names of the letters from the beginning, especially the vowels, it should help you.

Notice that the vowel sounds in Spanish are generally of shorter duration than they are in English and just one sound. Many times in English, we pronounce vowels by drawing them out and changing sounds throughout the pronunciation.

Here are some videos with explanations and examples. I provide them because I think it is very important that you listen to a variety of Spanish speakers. I also aim to provide explanations for a variety of different learning styles and preferences. There is no need to listen to every video all the way through. You can make decisions based on your own needs and preferences. Everyone is different!
