Vorbemerkung: Alles ist auf einmal auf Deutsch!

Congratulations! After the completion of the first five chapters your German is now good enough to switch the texts for the exercises into German! The following table should help you any time you come across a word or phrase in an exercise that you don’t understand. The verbs are listed in alphabetical order. Most verbs are in the imperative; a form you will learn about in Chapter 7, but don’t worry you’ll still be able to understand the verbs.

This chapter helps you with unknown vocabulary in various way:

1. Boxes named „Vokabelhilfe” (vocabulary-help) translate or explain the underlined vocabulary.

2. An underlined German word is followed directly by its translation into English.

3. Don’t worry, you will always come across a new word or phrase, but you do not need to understand each and every single word!

4. Context will help you to still make sense out of the text.

5. Apply the reading strategies you know (recognizing cognates, looking at key words before you start reading the text for detailed information, etc.).

6. Use a dictionary if you really still want to know what a word means (try: http://www.leo. org, http://www.wordreference.com or http://www.woerterbuch.info)!
