This second group of regular verbs in French have infinitives that end in -ir. Notice how the endings change. The plural forms, in particular, insert -iss- between the stem and the usual endings we've seen before.

Conjugaisons du verbe **finir** (to finish)

je finis	nous finissons
tu finis	vous finissez
il, elle, on finit	ils, elles finissent

Juan finit la sculpture. (Juan finishes the sculpture.)

Nous finissons l'examen. (We finish the exam.)

These are some common regular -ir verbs:

grossir	to gain weight	Il grossit toujours quand il est stressé.
maigrir	to lose weight	Tu maigris quand tu es malade.
punir	to punish	La mère punit ses enfants.
finir (de)	to finish	Je finis le roman. Je finis de lire le roman.
choisir (de)	to choose	Nous choisissons nos amis. Nous choisissons de vivre à Biarritz.
réfléchir (à)	to think about, reflect	Elle réfléchit beaucoup. Elle réfléchit à la question.
réussir (à)	to succeed	L'homme réussit. L'homme réussit à s'échapper.
obéir (à)	to obey	Les enfants obéissent à leurs parents.
rougir	to blush	Justine est timide, elle rougit souvent.

(a) Finir and choisir require de when followed by an infinitive.

Je finis de faire mes devoirs. (I finish doing my homework.)

Nous choisissons de vivre à Rouen. (We choose to live in Rouen.)

(b) Obéir, réussir and réfléchir often require à before their objects.

Elle réfléchit à la question. (She's thinking about the question.)

Les enfants obéissent à leurs parents. (Children obey their parents.)

L'homme réussit à s'échapper. (The man succeeds at escaping.)

Ils réussissent à trouver un appartement. (They succeed in finding an apartment.)
