    Present Perfect Tense with Indefinite or Unknown Time

    Unknown time - with 'ever'

    Example #1:

    Have you ever gone to New York?

    • Yes, I have. OR No, I haven't.
    • Yes, I went to New York last year. It was lots of fun.

    NOT: I have gone to New York last year.

    Example #2:

    Have you ever tried sushi?

    • Yes, I have. OR No, I haven't.
    • Yes, I have never tried sushi.
    • Yes, I tried sushi for the first a few days ago.

    NOT: I have tried sushi for the first time a few days ago.

    Example #3:

    Have you ever studied another language?

    • Yes, I have studied French and Spanish.
    • Yes, I studied French and Spanish when I was in college

    Or:

    • No, I have never studied another language.

     

    Unknown time - with 'Yet & Already'

    Have you had your morning coffee yet?

    • Yes, I have.
    • Yes, I have already had my coffee.
    • Yes, I had my coffee at 8 am.

    Or:

    • No, I haven't had my coffee yet.

     

    Practice:

    Answer the following questions:

    1. Have you ever gone to Golden Gate Park?

    2. Have you had lunch yet?

    3. Have you taken Writing 3 yet?

    4. Have you ever lived in another state in the US?

    5. Have you gotten your CCC ID card yet?

    6. Have you gotten your driver’s license yet?
