Painted by Marc Chagall in the winter of 1912, “Half-Past Three (The Poet)” can be considered something of an artistic manifesto, a celebration of individual creativity and of the power of our imagination. In it, Chagall renders conventional, but strikingly personal, elements of his Parisian studio in a truly unconventional way: as a set of intersecting and overlapping lines and prismatic planes.
