As you've seen in this unit, certain graphemes produce nasal vowels in some contexts, but non-nasal vowels in other contexts.
Generally, when a nasal vowel — which has an n or an m at the end of its grapheme — loses it's nasal vowel status as soon as a vowel (usually an e) follows it. The n and the m - which are normally silent are now pronounced. Whenever the n or the m are doubled up, the vowel will also cease to be nasal. Compare, for example, the following:
