After watching "Urgent Solutions for Urgent Times" several times, I feel as if more people need to be exposed to it. I think when more people are educated and when they see the facts, statistics and the solutions that need to be made I think it will influence a lot more people. I think exposing these issues to the younger generation in schools would be a good start or if people share it on social media. Justice and equality for all and for our planet needs to be done. The only way that will be done is if we come together to tackle each issue.

The first issue being climate change. The immediate reaction I had to this video is when they stated the fact: “climate is man-made. The main driver is CO2 pollution from burning fossil fuels.” They quickly go into the actions that need to be made. Reducing food waste, renewable energy, carbon neutral, planting trees instead of chopping them down are all resolutions to ending the biggest issues in our world. The biggest question is if we can come together and find urgency to resolve this issue together quickly before it’s too late.

Poverty and Inequality is also immediately described as a man-made issue. The portion of the video quickly goes into the statistics and how the world has made huge progress in the last few decades. The hole in the wall experiment was the biggest thing that stuck out to me. During this section of the video the way that the children were able to quickly learn how to use the computer and even more impressively is when they said they learned English, and they were teaching each other is amazing. The video then goes through the actions that need to be made to end poverty and inequality. Healthcare, safety, protection, living wage, education, and internet for all. Equality is also man-made. The actions that need to be made all depend on how we treat each other. Breaking the cycle of corruption and offering peace and respect to all will help this issue immensely. Injustice is the scariest issue of all to me personally. The story of George Floyd has been the biggest movement around the world and has sent out one of the biggest messages that Inequality needs to end immediately.

Gender equality is especially important to me because I am raising my two daughters. Teaching your daughters that they have the right to speak up, work, have an education are all important when raising young women. The positive solutions states that we need to make our law equal so that women have the same opportunities as men do. Living free from violence and being able to make decisions about their own bodies is a topic that weighs heavy on me. Being a woman, we should not have men making laws about what we decide to do with our bodies. I think that having access to healthcare for sexual reproduction is especially important. Women are half of the population, and we need to do better at being equal.

This video does an excellent job at introducing the audience to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The video carefully goes through all the world’s biggest problems. It explains the actions that we need to go through to make the world a safe place to live in. This video was beautifully made and very powerful in the message that it sends out.
