Organizing Activity
To Do
Revisit the prewriting, working thesis, and initial evidence you’ve gathered for your essay so far. It’s time to start organizing the content into a plan, so you know what you’re ready to write and what will need more thought, research, or investigation.
- Determine what kind and how many body paragraphs you’ll need. Write a draft of a topic sentence for each body paragraph.
- Determine what kind of introduction will be appropriate for this essay. Write a draft of a “hook” statement to catch the reader’s attention.
- Determine what kind of conclusion will be appropriate for this essay. Write a draft of a “takeaway” or “zinger” statement to leave your reader with.
- Compare the sentences you’ve developed to your thesis statement. Do your topic sentences all relate directly to your thesis? If not, consider revising your thesis, and/or the topic sentences.
