    Part One

    Note: Do not work on both sides of your pages.

    Pages 1 and 2

    • Page titles: Achromatic Grayscales
    • Two grayscales per page
    • Write colors used under each grayscale
      • Black and white 11 step gray scale - list actual values next to each step using your value scanner.
      • Black and white blended gray scale - as many values as possible.
      • Ultramarine blue & burnt umber - 11 step grayscale - match values to scanner, list actual values.
      • Pthalo green & alizarine crimson - 11 step grayscale - match values to scanner, list actual values.

    Pages 3 and 4

    • Page titles: Chromatic Grayscales
    • Allow a slight amount of color to be visible, while maintaining a gray appearance.
    • 2 grayscales per page
    • Write colors used under each grayscale. See chromatic gray samples on p. 156 of Color: A workshop for artists and designers. (Hornung, 2012).
      • Pthalo blue, burnt sienna - 11 step grayscale - this one needs to be accurate with the value scanner!
      • Cadmium yellow, ultramarine blue, cadmium red - blended grayscale, as many values as possible.
      • Cadmium yellow, pthalo blue, alizarine crimson - blended grayscale, as many values as possible.
      • Cadmium red, yellow ochre, ultramarine blue - blended grayscale, as many values as possible.

    Pages 5, 6, and 7

    • Page titles: Color Wheels
    • Three color wheels, one per page
    • Indicate which colors are primary, secondary, tertiary colors in each wheel.
    • Write the colors used to paint each of the primary and secondary swatches.
      • Cadmium red, cadmium yellow, ultramarine blue
      • Cadmium red, cadmium yellow, pthalo blue
      • Cadmium red, alizarine crimson, cadmium yellow, ultramarine blue, thalo blue

    Part Two

    If you made up any assignments from the first part of your sketchbook, you must include your graded checklist.

    Personal Color Preference Swatches

    Preliminary Studies for Mounted Midterm Project

    • Three cropped photos, enlarged so that objects are not easily recognized – no whole objects! Color swatches matching the colors of your photo to the right of each one.
    • 1st half of page:
      • Color swatches for your nine muted colors
      • Title: Muted Colors.
    • 2nd half of page:
      • Paint nine main high saturation colors on ½ page in your sketchbook as a color reference for your two tints and shades compositions.
      • Value ranges for the nine main base colors must be between 5 and 10 - vary this as much as possible.
      • Title: High Saturation Colors.

    Part Three

    If you made up any assignments from the first or second part of your sketchbook, you must notify me of improved projects with your prior grade sheets.

    Repeating Shapes Homework

    • Two or more design drawing proposals
    • Nine project color swatches

    Transparency and Space Homework

    • Three thumbnail composition sketches in pencil, and nine color swatches.
    • Four crosses, two median transparency, two dark transparency using your Transparency project colors.

    Textile Project (Final Project) Homework

    • Fine art source labeled with artist, title, and medium.
    • Nine painted color swatches based on the fine art source.
    • Proportional color map based on the fine art source.
    • Sketches of nine or more shapes that might be part of your final textile.
    • Two thumbnail sketch proposals for a complex textile.
    • Notes on the proposed purpose(s) of your textile

    Textile Research

    • Photos of your own additional textile research (extra credit).
