At the center of the semester's content and exercises, resides these questions:
- how can the study of the humanities impact our daily lives?
- what can the humanities bring to fields like science and technology?
- how do humanistic achievements and the human imagination reflect and shape cultures?
Watch author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's oft-quoted talk, "The Danger of a Single Story." As you watch, consider how our preconceived notions of cultures, histories, and societies contribute to single stories? What's the danger inherent in a single story? How might we push back at such a story? What single stories have you encountered? Be sure to take notes, quoting from Adichie and writing your responses to these and other questions that occur to you. You'll share them in your introductory post.
