    Clauses subordonnées
    Que, où, quand, pourquoi, comment, si.. + Sujet + verbe    		 Tu sais que la prof est absente aujourd'hui.
    Nous savons pourquoi vous êtes tristes.
    Ils savent comment l'accident est arrivé.

    Savoir and connaître

    Both verbs express two different kinds of "knowing" and must follow the grammatical structure rules above.

    Savoir

    • Savoir + objet direct (qui ? quoi ?) when you "know (have memorized) a fact or piece of information"

    Je sais la date d’aujourd’hui. (I know today’s date.)

    Tu sais le numéro de téléphone du voisin (neighbor) ?

    • Savoir + infinitif is also used to say that you "know how to do something":

    Savez-vous skier ? (Do you know how to ski?)

    Je sais faire un cassoulet. (I know how to make a cassoulet.)

    • Savoir + clauses subordonnées (que, où, quand, pourquoi, comment, si.. + sujet + verb..) when you "know a fact or piece of information":

    Elles savent où tu habites. (They know where you live.)

    Vous savez si elle ment ? (Do you know if she's lying?)

    Connaître

    Connaître + objet direct (qui ? quoi ?) is used to say that you know someone or are acquainted with someone/something:

    Ce chien connaît bien son maître. (This dog knows its master.)

    Ce cheval connaît le chemin. (This horse knows the way.)

    Tu connaît cette personne ? (Do you know this person? Are you acquainted with this person?)
