A veces nos ayuda tener un grupo que nos da apoyo (support).
If we want to make suggestions to a group we are in and include ourselves in those suggestions, we can use the imperative of nosotros. It is formed in the same say as the ¨usted¨ and ¨ustedes¨ conjugations We flip the vowel from ¨a¨ to ¨e¨ or from ¨e¨ to ¨a.¨
Here are some examples. I will put the infinitive in parenthesis:
Practiquemos (practicar) la atención plena (mindfulness). Bailemos (bailar) para aleviar el estrés. Hagamos (hacer) ejercicio juntos. Andemos (andar) por los senderos en el bosque (trails in the forest).
There is a slight change that happens with the stem changing verbs in the imperative of nosotros. Remember that there is no stem change in the nosotros conjugation of the indicative. However, in the imperative there is for verbs that end in -ir, but the stem change is slightly different for o---> verbs and e--->ie verbs.
- Remember that the stem change for dormir is o ---> ue in the indicative. In the imperative of nosotros, it is o--->u.
- Durmamos siete horas por noche.
- Remember that the stem change for mentir is e---> ie in the indicative. In the imperative of nosotros it is e--->i.
- No nos mintamos cuando nos sentimos mal. Digamos (decir) la verdad.
- Remember that the stem change for pedir is e---> i. These stem changes are the same in the imperative of nosotros.
- No pidamos bebidas azucaradas cuando salimos a comer.
