A: ¿Con qué frecuencia te prepara la cena tu madre?

B: Ella me prepara la cena dos veces por semana.

    What do you notice?

What is being prepared? La cena. That is the direct object. For whom? For me. That is the indirect object. Notice that these are the same pronouns you use with the verb ¨gustar.¨ With the verb ¨gustar,¨ someone is receiveing good feelings from something.

In the answer above, you can also replace ¨la cena,¨ but will will practice using indirect and direct object pronouns together a bit later.

    pronombres de complemento indirecto

    me nos
    te (os)
    le (se) les (se)

Note: The ¨se¨ is only used as an indirect object pronoun when both the direct and indirect object pronouns are used together. We will go over this soon.

    Más ejemplos:

A: ¿Con qué frecuencia les preparas comida a tus amigos?

B: Les preparo comida a veces.

    Ojo

Notice that the above question includes an indirect object and also an indirect object pronoun that represents the same thing. This sentence in English would be, ¨How often do you prepare food for your friends. We would not use the indirect object pronoun ¨them,¨ although we could use it in the next sentence. ¨I prepare them food once in a while.¨ However, in Spanish, when there is an indirect object in the sentence, we almost always use the indirect object pronoun as well.

A: ¿Con qué frecuencia te preparan tus amigos comida?

B: Me preparan comida de vez en cuando.
