    How to Give Notes

Giving notes to actors really depends on the personality of the actor. Each actor will have prefered ways of communication and it is your job as the leader to develop trusting relationships with your cast and learn how each member communicates. Some actros will tell you “just tell me what I am doing wrong, I like it.” That is a LIE! One thing to always remember is that actors are sensitive by nature and all human beings need to know what they are doing well more than they need to know what to fix. Also remember that people can only work on one improvement at a time so be strategic in what you choose to point out.

One rule I find really helpful is PCP. Praise, Correct, Praise. You begin by letting the person know what they are doing well. This provides positive feedback on what to keep and also allows them to be more receptive to a critique. Next you correct. Choose one item that the person can improve. Then return to priasing what they have done well.

    Notes on Leadership

Nick Fury leads the Avengers not because he is the smartest avenger, that honor goes to Iron Man. Nick Fury is not the bravest, that honor goes to Captain America. He is not the most cunning, that honor belongs to Black Widow. Nor is he the strongest, those honors go to Thor and Hulk. Yet what Nick Fury is able to do is see the value and skills each member of the team brings to the group and because he has this skill each member of the group trusts him. When you are leading look for the best in others. Always publicly acknowledge your team members contributions and help them feel valued. When people feel valued they will work incredibly hard for you. One of the most important lessons I have ever learned is that it is essential that a leader believes in the individuals on the team, even and especially if that individual does not believe in his/herself.
