Communication (what students will be able to do):
By the end of this chapter, students will be able to:
- Talk about their favorite places in a city.
- Talk about what they will do in the near future.
- Give and understand directions to a specific location.
- Describe the weather.
- Communicate in basic travel situations.
Culture (what students will know about the French-speaking world):
By the end of this chapter, students will know something about:
- How to prepare for a trip to a Francophone country.
- Some information about Switzerland and New Caledonia.
- Some cultural differences between the U.S. and France.
Grammar/ Tools (what students need to know):
In order to perform these communicative tasks, students will have to understand and be able to use correctly the following structures:
- The prepositions à and de and their contractions with the definite articles.
- The conjugation of the verb aller and its uses, including the immediate future.
- The conjugation of regular -ir verbs.
- The conjugation of the verb faire and some of its idiomatic uses.
- The basic structure of the passé composé with the auxiliary avoir.
