In this section, you will learn how to express a repeated action with variations of the prefix « re- »

    On étudie !

Le morphème : “re-”, “ré-“, “r-”.

Re-/Ré- isa prefix that means doing and action again (just like in English).  You can add it to many verbs.  It is usually written with an accent aigu (ré-) when the following letter begins with a vowel. Sometimes r- is used when followed by an a.

Voici quelques exemples de l'application du préfixe "re-":

composer un numéro  ➔ recomposer un numéro

    démarrer l’ordinateur ➔ redémarrer l’ordinateur

apprendre à utiliser le logiciel ➔ apprendre à utiliser le logiciel

annoncer la bonne nouvelle. ➔ annoncer la bonne nouvelle.

Sometimes adding re- to a verb can mean more than just repeating an action. Compare prendre vs. reprendre

prendre (to take, to grab [something], to take on, to pick [somebody, something] up, to catch)

reprendre (to resume [something], to regain, to pick up, to take up, to continue, to take over, to retake, to revive)

    Or approcher vs. rapprocher:

approcher (to come nearer, to come closer)

rapprocher (to bring something together, to put or draw something closer)

    Or accrocher vs. raccrocher:

    accrocher (to hang [slomething])

raccrocher (to hang up [a phone], to hang back up)
