Writing clear, precise sentences will help your audience understand your message and make your writing more effective. Like the camera lens focused on the flower in the foreground of figure 6.4.1, your choice of words and the way you build your sentences can bring your ideas into focus for your reader.
Strategies for writing with clarity
- avoiding wordiness
- choosing active voice where appropriate
- using clear pronoun references
- using strong and specific rather than general words
