The work is on display in the Haas, Jr. Atrium at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. The award-winning Mehretu is known worldwide for her unique way of combining layered imagery and paint with a powerful social message. The work was inspired by 1950’s San Francisco and uses digital images of contemporary riots and protests that are overlayed with paint.
