    DEFINITION TO REMEMBER:

    MLA = Modern Language Association (typically used for liberal arts and humanities)

    RULES TO REMEMBER:

    1. Use 12 point, Times New Roman font, with 1” margins on all sides.
    2. Include a header that numbers all pages consecutively in the upper right-hand corner, one half inch from the top of the page.
    3. Your essay includes 2 main sections: body and works cited page. Do not include a title page unless your instructor specifically requests one.

    Exercise 24.1
    Consider a writing assignment you will need to undertake in the near future. Prepare a sample first page of an MLA essay. Take care to ensure that all components are accurate, and be creative with your title.

     

    Exercise 24.2

    Consider an assignment you have completed recently or an assignment you will undertake in the near future, and select a specific source for that assignment. Prepare a proper MLA summary, paraphrase, and direct quote using that source, taking care to follow all MLA parenthetical requirements precisely.

    Gather at least 10 sources for an assignment you have completed recently or an assignment you will undertake in the near future. Prepare a proper MLA works cited page, taking care to list individual sources appropriately.
