Everywhere I go I tend to always look to the people around me and notice that they are not just fillers in our world, but they are people with goals and dreams. Human rights are a topic that has been talked about for a long time in our world and we sometimes ask ourselves if we are ever going to find some answers to them. There are plenty of human rights that we can talk about like the freedom of education or the right to work, although I will not be talking about each one, I will keep it simple and talk about, what I think is the foundation for all of them, which is the right to equality.

When we talk about equality, we should never see someone who is rich and wealthy to someone who is struggling and being homeless because at the end of the day, they are both human beings. An article that I recently read about said that many African American physicians were being pushed out of their hospital because of discrimination in the workforce, this was about 12 hours from writing this paper (Su). This shows us that discrimination and equality are still ongoing issues that have yet to be resolved, and sometimes wonder if anyone is doing anything to try and stop this, because if no one takes a stand, no one will see it as a problem, and that can be upsetting since as a nation, we are one. Knowing that we may never find a solution to equality sort of makes you want to be involved and help towards a solution, as I looked around there was not many forms of research, I could find that deal in finding solutions to these types of problems. To add to that, I do not think you can also find answers online because to go in the right direction, it starts with you and with myself, I always try to help others that need it no matter who they look like or their gender.

Equality is something we are given at birth, and although it gets taken from some people, it will always stay with you because it is a gift that cannot be truly taken from us. Being equal is not about being nice or being a friendly person, it is about showing the same respect that you want to be given, it shows how you are as a character and believe me, something that also makes you feel good and want to continue doing. It is sometimes sad when people mistreat others or make them feel less that what they are, like bullying or another form or harassment, this is something that will not help us in our world, it will only make it worse. Our feelings can also lead to the decisions that we make, so we must think logical about what we do or say before it happens because it can negatively impact to those around you.

When we consider these things in different people, we then can realize how similar we are to each other. So, it really does not make any sense to think of someone or yourself as superior to another because at then end of the day we all have the same basic needs to live and that is really all that we need. Another article I read about explained that when we show empathy, we can respond to others and think about each other’s feelings (Zaki). Empathy is something that does not just show we care about someone or their feelings, but also it creates connections with each other that will last and be able to see those as “outsiders” as humans like you and me.

Another specific example of human equality is for those who are disabled, whether they have a mental health issue or being disabled because of one of their body parts they should not be looked at or talked about in any other way. My grandfather is disabled and must walk with a cane, and wherever we go, there are many people who often open a door for him or help him get out of the couch, it does not sound like much, but to him, even the small things make the bigger difference. This is one of the positive examples that can help ultimately feel like people belong and that they share the same equal benefits that we all have.

The audience for this primarily set for younger adults and older children because they are the next generation when it comes to taking care of our Earth and its people so this paper should be able to give those people some clarity about a basic human right that should not be misused. The information used was able to also help myself find where I fit into a solution for this issue, and I hope that it also did the same for all of you as well. When we stop to think about why we are on the Earth, we should see our purpose for ourselves but also what can be done for others, we must show each other the same dignity and respect that we all long for and when this happens, then we can see the start to Peace on Earth. In an article by Pope Francis, he says, Peace can only be achieved by moving beyond past conflicts and joining forces to promote the common good”. This shows that the start is something we can do if it is done right and done together!
