When did America turn?
When did America turn its back
on the homeless veteran,
Whose government left on the streets,
Because they couldn’t afford to keep him
When did America turn its back
On the starving families
Living off of the charitable donations of others,
and food stamps the government makes so hard to get
When did America turn its back
On the young married couple,
Who live in the roughest part of town,
Because despite their hard work it’s all they can afford.
When did America turn its back
On all the starry-eyed boys and girls
Who dream to better the world
But are impoverished by just trying to live
When did America turn its back
On all the people who are less fortunate,
On all the people who beg for scraps,
On all the people who are ripped from their homes,
Or denied the chance to have a home?
When did "We the people"
Take the idea of "The Golden Dream
And make it into "The Golden Nightmare"?
When did we turn, America?
