    Throughout this module, Time-based media is explored, discussed, and engaged with the past, present, and future. Originated in the late nineteenth century, time-based media began using a sequence of still images to create the illusion of motion. Known for his pioneering work in motion studies, Eadweard Muybridge produced iconic sequences, such as the sequence of a horse jumping. This era saw landmark films in American cinema that introduced significant technical and artistic innovations.

    The medium evolved further in the 1960s and 70s, with video technology enabling the recording and editing of moving images and sounds. Today, time-based media encompasses video, animation, audio, and interactive experiences, all crucial for dynamic storytelling. These forms of media combine user interaction with video, animation, and audio, enhancing personalization and immersion.

    Current trends in time-based media include live streaming, short-form video content, interactive storytelling, personalized content, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and user-generated content. These advancements highlight the diverse and evolving nature of time-based media, underscoring its importance in creating engaging and immersive digital experiences.
