AI tools often amaze (or frighten) us with their lifelike capabilities, but their functionality is limited by the content they were trained on.
We may not realize it, but we engage with AI frequently, and it is changing how we live. Common examples of AI include:
- search engines such as Google, which use natural language processing (NLP) to retrieve search results
- assistants such as Alexa and Siri, which understand human speech through NLP
- the function in Zoom that allows recognition of human actions such as hand gestures
- fitness trackers
- recommendation functions and targeted advertising such as content or purchase recommendations based on search or watch histories, as found on Google, Netflix, YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, etc.
- facial recognition software
- language and text processing tools such as Google Translate, Grammarly, and ChatGPT
- word choice autocomplete and grammar suggestions in writing and text messaging apps
- chatbots that respond to customer questions
