This worksheet will guide you through the process of carefully and critically evaluating a resource on your chosen topic.
Select a resource from your citation matrix to analyze in detail, then respond to each of the prompts below. Be sure to include the citation for your source. Your responses do not need to include answers to every single question, but should include as much information as possible for your selected resource. Each response should be at least a couple of sentences. Use complete sentences and proper grammar, and correct spelling and punctuation.

- What type of resource is the material (primary, secondary, scholarly, popular, etc.)?
- What information does the resource contain? Does it match other resources on the same topic? Is there more complete, accurate, or less-biased information elsewhere? How closely does the information relate to your topic? Is the content well-written? Does the language used seem sensational or neutral?
- What is the context of the information? Is it presented in its original context, taken out of context, or put in a certain frame that changes its meaning for the reader?
- How is the information presented visually? Does the information source contain sponsorship, ads, or other unrelated information?
- Who is the author? What’s their expertise? What’s their record for fairness or accuracy? Does the author cite supporting sources? What is the quality of their sources and citations?
- Where was the information published? What is the context in which the information was published? Who sponsors the resource or publisher financially?
- When was the material published? Does it contain the most up-to-date information? If the information is in a subject area that is evolving, when was it last updated? Was the material peer-reviewed, tested, or otherwise verified?
- Why was the information published (to inform, entertain, persuade, sell, etc.; does the author or publisher have an agenda?)?
