This module focuses on the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. Specifically, the middle stretch of that triangular journey called the middle passage which was the horrific ship route from Africa to the New World. After learning about Ancient Africa and life for "Black" people before European aggression and colonization, students will now see what Africans and their descendants lost with regards to wealth, culture, spirituality, etc.
Students Learning Outcomes/Course Objectives Covered
This module will:
- Define and discuss the Atlantic slave trade.
- Define and discuss the word, Maafa and its impact
Upon Completion of this module, students will be able to:
- Identify and demonstrate an understanding of key concepts in Africana Studies, and interrelated disciplines.
- Recognize and discuss social issues affecting people of African descent in the United States, across the African Diaspora, and throughout the world, with knowledge of Africa as a place of origin.
