    In this section, you will learn how to present actions in order using the connecting words avant and après

    Ordering events in your story with les prépositions d'ordre. We can use certain prepositions (avant, après) and adverbs (ensuite, puis) to help present events in a certain order or sequence. In this section we will concentrate on the prepositions avant (before) and après (after).

    Both prepositions are often used before a noun:

    Avant le dîner, Sofia a mangé un morceau de tarte. (Before dinner, Sofia ate a piece of pie.)

    Il faut l’appliquer sur la peau après la douche. (You have to apply it to the skin after a shower.)

    Please note: you can also use avant de/d' before an infinitive to say before doing something:

    On prend l’apéro avant de manger. (We drink the aperitif before eating.)

    Il nettoie la maison avant de partir en voyage. (He cleans the house before going on a trip.)
