¿Qué es una cláusula adjetival? Es una cláusula que se usa en lugar de un adjetivo. (What is an adjective clause? It is a clause used in place of an adjective.)

    ejemplos:

    1) Tengo una casa amarilla. (I have a yellow house.)

    - ¨amarilla¨ es un adjetivo que describe ¨una casa.¨ (Yellow is an adjective that

    describes ¨house.¨

    2) Tengo una casa que es amarilla. (I have a house that is yellow.)

    - ¨que es amarilla¨ es una cláusula que se usa en lugar del adjetivo ¨amarilla.¨ Sirve de adjetivo. Si lo que uno describe con la cláusula es real y conocido, se usa el

indicativo en la cláusula. (¨that is yellow¨ is a clause that is used in place of

the adjective ¨yellow.¨ If what one describes with the clause is real and known,

the indicative is used in the clause.)

    3) Quiero una casa que sea amarilla. (I want a house that is yellow.)

    - ¨que sea amarilla¨ es una cláusula que se usa en lugar del adjetivo ¨amarilla.¨

Sirve de adjetivo. Si lo que uno describe con la cláusula es de una existencia

incierta , desconocida, inexistente, se usa el subjuntivo en la cláusula. (¨that is

amarilla¨ is a clause that is used in place of the adjective ¨amarilla.¨ It serves as an

adjective. If what one describes with the clause is of an unknown or denied

existence or unknown, the subjunctive is used in the clause.

(Make sure you read the sentences carefully and understand them well before choosing the indicative or the subjunctive. Is the adjective describing a known or an unkown thing?)

Subjunctive / Indicative – Adjective Clauses

Actividad comunicativa: En busca de... - In search of...

1)Busco una casa que… (I´m looking for a house that…) Pretend you are looking for a house and you are telling the realtor what kind of house you are looking for. Start off with ¨Busco una casa que…¨ You will use the subjunctive after this phrase because the existence of the house you are looking for is unknown.
