Hay más de quinientos grupos indígenas en América Latina, cada uno con su propia historia y cultura, y muchos todavía hablan las lenguas de sus antepasados precolombinos. Un grupo muy reconocido es el Aimara. Los aimaras habitan una gran parte de la región andina, que incluye partes de Bolivia, Perú, y Chile. Su lengua es aimara, pero los aimaras que conviven con poblaciones no muy indígenas también hablan español. Ellos se conocen por sus rituales tradicionales, el uso de la medicina natural en que se emplea el uso de hierbas y chamanes, y por su textilería. Su ropa suele ser de colores brillantes, de tejidos de las lanas de alpaca.
