El español que se habla en el Caribe se distingue de las otras variedades de español que hemos estudiado en tres características destacadas.

Los caribeños suelen aspirar o eliminar por completo la “s” final. En el caso de la aspiración, el hablante hace un sonido como “h” en el inglés:

A veces este sonido es tan suave que no se percibe, resultando en la eliminación de la “s” al final de sílaba:
lo chico
Con palabras que terminan en –ado, hay una fuerte tendencia de eliminar el sonido “d”. Este fenómeno puede ocurrir en cualquier contexto en que haya una “d” entre dos vocales.

- Los hablantes del español caribeño también tienen fama de hablar muy rápido. Si estás hablando con un puertorriqueño o con una cubana y no puedes seguir el ritmo de su habla, nada más tienes que decir: “¡Más despacio, por favor!”
