Pourquoi, pour quoi et pour quelle raison

(a) Pourquoi is an interrogative adverb that translates to why or wherefore in English. Examples :

Pourquoi le baron Haussmann a-t-il transformé Paris?

Dis-moi pourquoi tu aimes le musée d'Orsay.

(b) Pour quoi and pour quelle raison are synonymous. The combination of the preposition pour and the relative pronoun quoi mean for what or which reason.

Pour quoi a-t-on transformé la gare d'Orsay en un musée ? Pour y mettre des oeuvres du 19e siècle.

car (+ verbe)	because (more formal)	Le débat présidentiel fut reporté à une date ultérieure car un des candidats a attrapé le COVID-19.
grâce à	thanks to	Paris est plus jolie maintenant grâce au baron Haussmann.
à cause de	because of	La cathédrale Notre-Dame a été détruite à cause de l'incendie.
à cause du fait que (+ verbe)	because of the fact that	Le baron Haussmann a transformé Paris à cause du fait que c'était très sale et insalubre.
pour (+ nom, verbe à l'infinitif)	for	Les Français ont fait la révolution pour obtenir plus de liberté.

(d) The expressions comme and puisque translate to "as" or "since". Puisque expresses an obvious consequence or explanation. Comme is always placed at the beginning of a sentence and it creates a logical relationship between a consequence and its outcome. Examples:

J'ai invité Gérard à la fête puisque tu m'as demandé de le faire.

Comme elle n'avait pas faim, Léa n'a pas mangé.
