In French, the liaison is a consonant sound that creates continuation between a word that ends in a consonant and another words that begins with a vowel, or a silent h. Yet, the liaison sound does not always happen. There are rules as to when we should or could make the laision and when we cannot.
(a) Always make a liaison between a subject pronoun and a verb that begins with a vowel.
Nous aimons Vous habitez Ils adorent On arrive !
(b) Also, make a liaison between articles or numbers and a noun that comes after and begins with a vowel or silent h.

(c) The liaison also exists between possessive adjectives and nouns that come after them.

(d) Make a liaison between est and sont and a word that comes after.
Il est ici. Ils sont à la gare. Il est obligé. Elles sont intelligentes.
(e) Liaisons also exist after one-syllable adverbs, conjunctions, or prepositions.

(f) Some expressions have obligatory liaisons.

- Before or after the conjunction et.
- Between a noun and a verb that follows it.

- Between a singular noun and an adjective that follows it.

- When the letter h is not silent. In some words, the letter h is not silent. In these cases, it is called an h aspiré. When the h is not silent (muet), then we should not make a liaison.
