13 THE VERB: CAUSATIVE CONSTRUCTIONS (LE CAUSATIF)
The verb faire + INFINITIVE is the typical causative construction in French ("to have someone do something" or "to have something done"). This is definitely not a first-year level construction and we will simply give a few examples here, without explanation.
| Napoléon a fait bâtir l'Arc de Triomphe. | Napoleon had the Arc de Triomphe built. |
| Faites entrer les étudiants. | Have the students come in. |
| Tu vas lui faire répéter le cours? | You're going to have him repeat the course? |
