Practice With Particular Sounds, In Sets

We group the sounds of French according to standard phonetic classifications, and give appropriate titles, but we don't ask you to learn the classification system or names: it is simply more effective and natural to consider the sounds in these groups.

Consonants

Voiced Stops: /b, d, g/

1 battre / c'est si bon / l'aube

2 dans / donnez-moi votre adresse / elle est grande

3 grand / regardez-moi / une jolie bague

Voiceless Stops: /p, t, k/

4 pauvre / un peu de repos / une enveloppe

5 tout / il a trop d'argent / une grande fête

Voiced Fricatives: /z, z, v/

7 zéro / vous avez raison / le jazz

8 Jean / Bonjour, Gigi / dans le garage

⁸ Some speakers of French still have a separate nasal vowel sound for the un, um combinations. The symbol for that sound is /œ/. You may hear it from native speakers, but you do not have to produce it.
