One of the best ways to improve your grammar is to read & analyze the grammar in readings.

Follow the instructions step by step to enjoy the reading.

    Part 1. Before You Read

Take a few minutes to write about the topic:

'What do you know about DACA?'

If you don't know much, Find out:

    • What does DACA stand for?
    • Who is affected by it?
    • Who are Dreamers?

Write down your thoughts or what you learn from your research in a short paragraph.

    Part 2. Grammar Analysis

In each sentence, highlight the present perfect verb. The first one is done for you.

    1. Since the program was announced in 2012, DACA has been a lifeline for immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children.
    2. Gonzales, the director of the Immigration Initiative at Harvard, has witnessed firsthand the life-changing effects of the program. For the past two decades, he has studied the outcomes of undocumented youth, before and after DACA was put in place.
    3. And since the program's inception, he has surveyed over 2,600 recipients about how it has affected their lives.
    4. I've heard from several colleagues.
    5. DACA has made a tremendous impact on the lives of hundreds of thousands of young people over the last eight years.
    6. All of the young people that we've met through this research have used their DACA benefits and status to benefit family members. They have been excited and proud to be able to do more to help their families.
    7. For example, one woman we surveyed has done remarkably well with her DACA status.
    8. She's moved into her own apartment.

    Part 3. Reflect & Write

What did you think about the information in the reading? Write a paragraph to explain your reaction. You can also choose one part or one sentence in the reading that really resonated with you and explain why you are choosing it.
