When hosting the watch party, I started by questioning my guests about climate change aka global warming, in other words what they already know? If they fail to have knowledge on the subject what is the reason behind it?

As I moved forward 6 out of the 8 views were very limited on the information, they knew about climate change. They were aware about it but didn’t feel like anything they do has a great impact. They say that those that really affect our planet and the climate crisis are big factories or anything that produces a large amount of greenhouse gases. 2 out of the 8 did admit to having more knowledge and state that they do recycle and have power efficient lights bulb/appliances around their home. They have also taken classes with TEP and Tucson Water on how to be more cost effect while also helping the environment.

Then we proceeded to watching the 5-6 min video. Once the video was completed, I handed them a paper with 5 questions:

    1. What did you learn from the video?
    2. What created an impact in you?
    3. How are we affecting the planet?
    4. What changes can you make?
    5. How can you promote a change in your home, work, or community?

We spoke about these questions openly and about 5 of the 8 had a different perspective by the end of the night. I had them pick a change they can make and try to incorporate it into their daily life for a week. We didn’t do anything to extreme just small changed to start with such as trying to reduce the water bottles used, recycling when possible, turning off the faucet water when brushing teeth, minimizing the waste produced at home and finding alternative methods of transportation.

I met with them one week later and they were astonished by how often we waste more water than necessary, the amount of plastic we dispose of the large number of groceries that go unused and discarded and the high intake of protein they have. They admitted they never really cared for the high amount of trash they were discarding or their high use of water because they never really had a real talk about global warming/climate change and never felt it was such an important issue until they watched the video. It just goes to show that many people are lacking knowledge on global warming, and we are failing to create a change due to the ignorance of so many.
