    Learning Objectives

    Communication (what students will be able to do):

    By the end of this chapter, students will be able to:

    1. Describe their own and family members' household chores.
    2. Discuss their duties at work.
    3. Discuss their current and desired lifestyles in terms of balancing work and leisure.
    4. Ask others questions about their work and lifestyles.
    5. Recount and ask questions about actions performed in the past.

    Culture (what students will know about the French-speaking world):

    By the end of this chapter, students will know something about:

    1. Gender distribution of household chores in France.
    2. Differences between French and American work schedules.
    3. Lifestyles in French-speaking Africa; rural versus city.

    Grammar/ Tools (what students need to know):

    In order to perform these communicative tasks, students will have to understand and be able to use correctly the following grammatical structures:

    1. Regular -re verbs in the present tense.
    2. The verbs vouloir, pouvoir, and devoir in the present tense.
    3. The passé composé formed with the helping verb avoir.
    4. The passé composé in negative and inverted sentences.
    5. Informational Questions.
    6. The interrogatives quel vs. que.
