    Introduction to Novel Writing

    by Tamara Girardi, PhD

    About the Author

Dr. Tamara Girardi is an Associate Professor of English at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, where she teaches several writing classes including Introduction to Novel Writing, the course for which this book was developed. An author of books for children and teens, Dr. Girardi's award-winning debut young adult novel, Gridiron Girl, tells the story of Julia Medina who quits her high school volleyball team to compete against her boyfriend for the starting quarterback position on the football team. Three additional sports novels in the Iron Valley Vikings series followed in 2022. Above the Fold is the first book in Tamara’s second series, all about teens exploring their dreams and their true selves through exhibits at a popular, mardi-gras-esque hotspot called Carnivalesque. Above the Fold released in January of 2023, and its sequel, Behind the Mask followed in February, both from Wise Wolf Books. Tamara’s debut board book, Why, Daddy? Why? was named a 2022 Editor’s Pick by Amazon and is being followed by Why, Mommy? Why?, which will be released in spring of 2025. Dr. Girardi is an editor for the Digital and Multimedia/Multimodal section of the Journal of Creative Writing Studies and co-edited the essay collection, Theories and Strategies for Teaching Creative Writing Online. She is presently working on several writing projects and is eager to see them out in the world. Since HACC is an open enrollment institution, guest students can enroll in her Introduction to Novel Writing or other creative writing courses by visiting the college's website. She can be reached through her website, www.tamaragirardi.com.
